Dear Younger Me

Ginger Gilbert

Dear Younger Me,

I remember you so clearly, the quiet questions, the comparisons, the

moments you wondered if you were enough. If I could sit with you

now, I would gently remind you of a truth that never changed, even

when you couldn’t see it, you were always enough in Him.

The Word of God says, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and

wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul

knoweth right well” (Psalm 139:14).

That includes you. You were created with intention, not by accident.

Every detail of who you are was carefully designed by a loving God

who makes no mistakes. Fearfully, in that scripture, means with great

reverence, heart-felt interest, and respect. Wonderfully, when

translated from the Hebrew, means unique and set apart. God

almighty, that spoke the heaven and the earth into existence,

created YOU with great reverence and respect. He crafted YOU to

be a distinct, beautiful individual. Don’t fall prey to this epidemic of

insecurity! Don’t listen to the lies from the enemy! Low self-esteem

and anxiety will begin to take control of you and your mind. When

the enemy tries to feed you these lies, pray over your mind and

rebuke those lies of insecurity. You aren’t just enough… you are

MORE than enough. You are beautiful and valuable… you are more

precious than rubies.

You spent so much time seeking validation, hoping someone would

affirm your worth, but listen closely, you do not need everyone’s

approval to be valuable. People’s opinions will change, but God’s

truth about you never will. “For do I now persuade men, or God? or

do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the

servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10). You were never meant to live for

the approval of people, but for the purpose of God.

Be who He created YOU to be.

He formed you with purpose already in mind. “For we are his

workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God

hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

You don’t have to strive to become someone else, you simply need

to walk in who you already are in Him.

You don’t have to shrink.

You don’t have to compare.

You don’t have to prove your worth.

You are beautiful, not because of the world’s standards, but

because you were made in the image of God. “So, God created

man in his own image, in the image of God created he

him” (Genesis 1:27). Your beauty is rooted in Him, and that makes it

unshakable. It is not defined by trends, opinions, or comparison. It

does not fade when you feel insecure or unsure. Your beauty is

steady because it comes from a steady source. The world may try to

redefine beauty again and again, but God already established it

when He created you. There is a great confidence that comes

when you stop measuring yourself against others and start seeing

yourself through His eyes. You were never meant to blend in, you

were created to reflect Him in a way no one else can. That alone

makes you beautiful beyond measure.

And more than beautiful, you are priceless. “For ye are bought with

a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which

are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20). Your worth was settled at the cross.

You were purchased with something far too valuable to ever be

questioned again!

There is something else you must understand, because it will shape

so many of your decisions. You have to learn to truly love and

respect yourself, not in a prideful way, but in a way that honors who

God created you to be. “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as

thyself” (Mark 12:31). That means there is an expectation that you

see value in yourself. When you understand your worth, you begin to

carry yourself differently.

Loving yourself means you won’t settle for less than what God has for

you. It means you won’t allow people to treat you beneath your

value. It means you will walk away from things that pull you out of

alignment with who God has called you to be. Respecting yourself

will guard your heart, your choices, and your future. It will help you

say no when something isn’t right, even when it’s hard. It will lead

you to choose peace over pressure, purpose over popularity, and

truth over temporary acceptance.

When you truly see yourself the way God sees you, your decisions will

begin to reflect that. You won’t make choices rooted in insecurity,

you will make choices rooted in identity and that will change

everything.

There will be days when insecurity tries to return, when doubt

whispers lies, but when it does, answer it with truth.

When you feel unseen, remember, “The Lord thy God in the midst of

thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with

joy” (Zephaniah 3:17).

When you feel weak, remember, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for

my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

When you feel uncertain about your future, remember, “For I know

the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of

peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah

29:11).

You are not without direction. You are not without purpose. God has

already written a plan for your life, and it is good!

And one day, this is important, you will look back and see clearly

what you can only trust now, living your life fully surrendered, sold out

to Jesus Christ and Him alone, is worth it all. Every sacrifice, every

moment of choosing Him over the world, every step of obedience, it

will all be worth it. There is no greater life than one lived for Him.

There will be seasons where choosing Him feels lonely, where

standing firm in your faith sets you apart, and where you may

question if it’s really worth it. But hold on. Stay rooted, “Trust in the

Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

(Proverbs 3:5-6). God is faithful to guide you, even when the path

feels unclear.

Be Confident! Confidence will not come from perfection. It will

come from knowing whose you are. When you understand that you

belong to Him, insecurity begins to lose its voice. You will stop striving

to be accepted and start resting in the truth that you already are.

So, walk boldly.

Stand firmly.

And live freely in who God has called you to be.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

You are chosen.

You are loved.

You are beautiful.

You are valuable.

You are important.

You do matter.

You are priceless.

And you always have been.

With love and truth,

Ginger
